SUMMARY:Landmark Travels: Auburn in Autumn
DESCRIPTION:After holding our 2023 Statewide Preservation Conference in Auburn\, we knew there was more to explore in this charming\, Central NY city. So we have planned a small curated day trip which highlights the history\, culture\, and great food. \nLocated in the heart of the Finger Lakes District\, Auburn is the county seat of Cayuga County. As we drive to Auburn\, we can admire the beautiful Fall foliage and begin our tour at the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park. \nAuburn is also well known for its prison\, thus the intriguing moniker – Prison City. And Prison City is where we head to next for lunch. Prison City Brewing\, that is! Great atmosphere and wonderful food and beer. \nJust outside of town\, we will experience an amazing preservation project – the restoration of Opendore\, the historic home of William\, Hanna\, and Isabel Howland. The Howlands were national leaders in the women’s suffrage movement and we will also visit the Howland Stone Store Museum. \nOur final stop before dinner will be the impressive Seward House Museum (pictured above)\, located in the historic home of William Henry Seward and his family. Serving as a New York State Senator\, Governor of New York\, a U.S. Senator\, and as Secretary of State in the Lincoln and Johnson administrations\, Seward was one of the foremost politicians of nineteenth century America. \nWe will end the day with a farm to table meal at the Restaurant at Elderberry Pond\, a Certified Organic Farm. \nTour departs from Rochester at 8:30 am and return by 9:30 pm. \nServices included: \n\nAll admissions\, tours\, and gratuities\nVan transportation\nLunch and gourmet dinner\nLarry Francer\, Assistant Director\, official tour guide and chauffeur\n\nTour Highlights: \n\nHarriet Tubman National Historic Park\nPrison City Brewing\nOpendore/Howland Stone Store Museum\nSeward House Museum\nElderberry Pond Farm and Restaurant\n\nTour Pricing: \n$295 per person\n(add $40 for non-member) \nReservations & More Info: \nDownload reservation form here! \nContact Larry Francer for more information.

SUMMARY:Landmark Travels: Portugal and the Douro River Cruise
DESCRIPTION:Click here to view our October 30th Zoom information session! \nWe loved our first Portugal and Douro River Cruise so much that we decided to take over the entire ship and invite some of our favorite organizations to join us for our upcoming 2025 tour. We will be partnering with our preservation colleagues at Adirondack Architectural Heritage\, our local LGBTQ organization Rochester Rainbow Union\, and the supporters of Rochester’s own PUSH Physical Theatre and the NYS Puppet Festival\, out of Perry\, NY. The cruise will be a fundraiser for the partnering organizations and allow the guests from each group to meet each other and learn about the other not-for profits. We also will have the opportunity for special programming including short performances to enjoy PUSH and Puppets in Portugal! \n\n\n \nThe tour begins in Lisbon with two days in this magical city concluding with a dinner at a Fado music venue. Next\, we are off to Porto by coach with stops at Fatima\, the important Catholic pilgrimage site and Coimbra\, the famous university town where some of us might be able to find the little restaurant that serves roasted suckling pig\, a local delicacy. In Porto we will board the luxurious MS Emerald Radiance for the next seven nights on the Douro river. \nAs we cruise along the Douro river\, enjoy gourmet dining onboard and complimentary regional wines\, beer\, and soft drinks with lunch and dinner. We will make stops and takes excursions to wonderful cities and towns throughout Portugal where we will experience the architecture\, landscape\, history\, culture\, and wineries. And the locks! What a great experience going through the many locks along the river. Spain is also included in the tour with a stop at UNESCO World Heritage Site of Salamanca\, where a lucky guest may even get to dance with the Tuna music band! Two more stops along the Douro enroute back to Porto will expose us to more of the breathtaking countryside and historic sites. Porto will excite you with its eclectic mix of modern and ancient architecture and we will enjoy a lovely sunset cruise in the capital city. \n \nPricing: \nCabins starting at $5\,765/person double occupancy (see brochure for all options) and free airfare through December 31st\, 2024.\n23 Meals: 9 breakfasts\, 5 lunches\, 9 dinners and all gratuities included.\nReserve your cabin soon to get your desired location. \nClick here to download brochure.\nClick here to download Landmark registration form.\nClick here to download Partner registration form. \nContact Larry Francer for additional information.

SUMMARY:Stage & Story: At The HeART of Preservation
DESCRIPTION:As part of The Landmark Society of Western New York’s annual Jubilee celebration\, we are excited to present this year’s special event: Stage & Story: At the HeART of Preservation — a refreshed take on our longtime tradition that celebrates the powerful connections between historic preservation\, community\, culture\, and the performing arts. \nThis year’s celebration will take place at the RBTL West Herr Auditorium Theatre\, highlighting one of The Landmark Society’s 2018 Five to Revive properties and a remarkable example of preservation in action. \nOriginally constructed as the Masonic Temple\, the building’s cornerstone was laid in 1928 and it was dedicated in 1930. Today\, it remains one of Rochester’s most distinctive examples of Art Deco architecture\, featuring molded ornamental plaster walls\, decorative ceiling tiles\, stylized lighting\, elevator doors\, and other streamlined details characteristic of the era. The theatre is also home to the world-famous Wurlitzer 4/23 theatre organ\, built in 1928 and relocated from the former RKO Palace Theater\, preserving a significant piece of Rochester’s cultural history. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, May 27\, 2026\, from 6–8 PM\, as  guests enjoy an unforgettable evening in the newly renovated Floreano Room\, featuring: \n\nLive entertainment and curated experiences\nPassed hors d’oeuvres and charcuterie displays\nBeer and wine\nA celebration of preservation\, performance\, and community\n\nThis special celebration event honors the rehabilitation of the Auditorium Theatre while bringing together supporters and friends of The Landmark Society in one of Rochester’s most iconic historic spaces. \nTickets are $65 and available by advance purchase only through May 15.
