The Landmark Society of Western New York’s Inside Downtown Tour opens up urban environments where people are creating exciting spaces to live and work. The 21st annual tour is featuring a brand new format this year! There will be a film screening on Friday night September 6th and a tour of private downtown homes on Saturday afternoon September 7th. Advance tickets are a must!
The film screening is the award-winning documentary “Courthouse Girls of Farmland” along with a talk back by film Executive Producer Larry Francer (also Landmark Society’s Assistant Director), the film’s Producer, the Courthouse Girls Calendar photographer, and Wayne Goodman, Landmark Society’s Executive Director (who all appear in the film). This film shares how a bridge club of 70-90-year-old ladies “bared it all” on a calendar to save their historic county courthouse in Indiana. Entertaining and inspiring, it shows that anyone can make a difference in preservation! The screening takes place in The Little Theater – an Art Deco landmark in its own right and recipient of numerous awards for its sensitive restoration.
The tour on Saturday afternoon September 7th will open up 6 private homes to tour goers. Most are in the neighborhood of Gibbs Street, Selden Street and Grove Place. If you’ve not seen this neighborhood, it’s hard to believe that East Main Street and Eastman Theater are just a block away! There’s also a bonus location: an incredible home in the elegant Sagamore on East Avenue.
Tour and Ticket Details: Your ticket is good for both events and must be purchased in advance. The screening on Friday September 6th is at 6 pm and the private homes will be open on Saturday September 7th between 12 noon and 4 pm. On Saturday you may visit each tour stop one time, in any order that you desire. The seating for the film documentary is limited, an additional screening will be offered if necessary. Babies and children under 12 are not permitted on the tour.
Please note: although the ticket date says Friday September 6th, it is good for BOTH the Friday screening and the Saturday afternoon tour! Be sure to include enough Save Your Seat free tickets to go with the number of paid tickets you order.
