House & Garden Tour tickets live

Lake Ontario. The Genesee River. The Erie Canal. Irondequoit Bay. The Finger Lakes. We have so many options for waterfront properties in our area. Many of them are not visible from the public road. Fortunately, owners are willing to share their homes with you, in our virtual tour coming to a computer or mobile device near you in June 2021.

This beautiful, professionally produced video will highlight sites near these bodies of water – and perhaps a few water features you didn’t even know existed. You will enjoy seasonal summer houses, year-round homes, and other unique properties.

The tour will be available to enjoy from June 18th through June 27th. You may even purchase “additional viewer” tickets at a deep discount for anyone that will watch the video with you.

Explore Architecture in the Wild with the YUPs

Our Young Urban Preservationists are back with their outdoor walking tour classes for the summer! In these classes, the YUPs take students out onto the streets to explore Rochester’s architectural history in its natural setting. Classes are held through the Rochester Brainery and registration is available on the Brainery’s website (follow the link below). Don’t delay–capacity is limited and these classes sell out quickly! (And stay tuned as the YUPs add more August classes to the schedule)

If you missed it this spring, the YUPs are also repeating their virtual class, The Rocks That Built Rochester. It’s a must-see if you like geology and/or architecture.

Seeking Preservation Award nominations

What do an Art Deco movie theatre, a digital archive of cobblestone buildings, a do-it-yourself owner of a Queen Anne/Eclectic house, and a former high school auditorium-turned-performing arts center have in common? All were recipients of Preservation Awards from The Landmark Society of Western New York in 2020.

Each fall, The Landmark Society presents several awards to projects, individuals, and organizations who, through their dedication and hard work, have helped to promote historic preservation in our nine-county area. The Landmark Society’s Awards Committee is seeking nominations for its 2021 Preservation Awards. Nominations are welcome from Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates counties.

Deadline to submit nominations is Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 5 PM.
