The Courthouse Girls are the “centerfold” of The Landmark Society’s 2013 Preservation Conference! The New York premiere of the award-winning documentary, The Courthouse Girls of Farmland, will be screened, with guest appearances by two of the original stars. A preservation success story made possible by true “outside the box” thinking, the film tells the story of seven senior women (aged 77-94) who got up from their bridge club table to make a bold and controversial statement, posing “suggestively” in a calendar to raise awareness and funds to save Randolph County’s 1877 Italianate style courthouse. Meet and greet the stars at this event.

7:00 PM – Screening of the Courthouse Girls of Farmland – 71 Main St in the Brockport School of Dance, located on the restored 2nd floor of the F&AM Bldg, above Unique Gift Boutique.

Courthouse Girls of Farmland is a story about a small Indiana town and seven senior women who got up from their bridge club table to make a bold statement about historic preservation. Upset about plans to destroy the 130 year old courthouse, the women threw caution—and their clothes—to the wind by posing for a fundraising calendar that created a firestorm of controversy. Backed by Historic Farmland USA, an organization known for its zany promotions, these 77-to-94 year old card-playing activists brought national attention to historic preservation’s role in helping small towns survive. Their daring protest also generated harsh criticism from many in their community. But in the end they proved the old have beauty and value whether it’s in time-worn buildings or in the people who have called that community home for nearly a century.
The winner of film festival awards with screenings throughout the United States and in Canada and Australia, Courthouse Girls of Farmland is a documentary that will have you cheering for the senior human spirit and inspiring you to be the difference in your community, whatever the cause.
