The Landmark Society’s House & Garden Tour returns to East Avenue this year with eight stops  – each with its own story to tell.  One stop is the Lyon Mansion, now the Rochester Academy of Medicine.  The remaining seven stops are private homes. Each place is diverse in size, architectural style, décor and age.  But the one thing you’ll find in common is that each is a testament to the dedication, vision and labor of love of the homeowners.  We’re fortunate that the owners are wonderful caretakers for these significant properties – and exceedingly grateful that they are opening their homes to the tour goers.

One house in particular is the perfect example.  The owners moved in last year, intending to invest about 6 months in restoration of the fine architectural details.  They have lived there for 16 months – and the restoration was just completed after 15 months of work.  We think you’ll find the results nothing short of spectacular.

All of the homeowners are rightly proud of their dedication – they love their homes and they love being in a city neighborhood.  Come and share the love, the first weekend in June. But – please note! Tickets for the tour are selling VERY quickly – you’ll want to order yours today and avoid the disappointment of a sellout.

If you’ve never participated in the June tour, you’ll want to know that you can go at your own pace. Your ticket booklet provides a map, descriptions of the houses, and a one time admission to each home. You may go in any order – you can even choose to visit some houses on Saturday and others on Sunday. Our tour headquarters will be at The Rochester Academy of Medicine, 1441 East Avenue.

PreTour Talk

PreTour Talk on the history, architecture and past residents of the neighborhood will be Thursday, June 2nd at 7 pm at The Rochester Academy of Medicine. The talk is FREE to ticket holders – present your ticket at the talk, or pick up your pre-ordered ticket that evening. Tour tickets may also be purchased that evening (if not sold out) or you may attend the talk only for $5.

  1. Do you have any old house tours in rochester on july 14 or 15, 2016? We will be in the area for a wedding and are very interested in old homes and architecture.

    • Hi Cathy. We hold two tours that get tourgoers inside private homes and apartments each year: our House & Garden Tour in June and our Inside Downtown Tour in the fall.
