The Museums - Introduction

The Landmark Society maintains two house museums, one in Brighton and one in Rochester, a historic garden, a park, and an 1840s house adapted for our offices. We love to share them with visitors. Campbell-Whittlesey House

One of the finest examples of Greek Revival architecture in America. It represents the prosperity the Erie Canal brought to Rochester during the boom-town years. Closed January through March.

Stone Tolan House

Recreates the private and public activities of a household and rural tavern on the frontier in Brighton, NY between 1790 and 1820. Closed January through March.

Ellwanger Garden

Visit a Victorian style English garden with an extensive collection of peonies and other plantings.

Hoyt-Potter House

Originally built in 1840 by bookstore owner David Hoyt this building is now the Landmark Society Headquarters.

St. Joseph's Park

St. Joseph's Park, created within the burned out remains of Rochester's oldest Catholic church (1846), today is a notable architectural monument and a focus for new downtown development in Rochester. The park inside the stone walls is temporarily closed to the public.
