We’ve all seen the wonderful mansions that line
East
Avenue
. Here’s your chance
to get both the inside and the outside story.
You asked for it, and we are happy to oblige. Back by
popular demand, we are once again offering the incredibly popular Mansions of
East Avenue Coffee Walk and Rochester Historical Society tour.
We’ll start our morning inside one of the oldest
mansions: “Woodside,” home of the Rochester Historical Society. After
enjoying refreshments, you’ll have time for a tour of this 1838 Greek Revival
house that was built when it was “at the side of the woods.” Our tour will
focus on the architectural details of this early home that was a style setter
for the area. The Rochester Historical Society is embarking on an exciting
period of transition and does not currently have exhibits on display.
The fun doesn’t end there! Soon we’ll be off
for our walking tour with Landmark Society’s Architectural Research
Coordinator, Cynthia Howk. Cynthia will lead us on a discovery of the beautiful,
the unusual, the elegant and the eclectic. We’ll see a range of historic
styles on upper
East
Avenue
,
Prince
Street
, and
Arnold
Park
.
Those who have been on a tour with Cynthia know you’re in for an educational
and very entertaining look at the “architectural life styles of the rich and
famous” along
Rochester
’s
grand boulevard.
Coffee Walks start with coffee and pastries at 9:30 a.m. and continue with a walking tour of 1.5 to 2 hours in length. Pre-registration is required. Landmark members $16, nonmembers $18.
